”Burial brings peace to the deceased” has always been a Chinese tradition and belief in Taiwan, a country with narrow land, dense population and skyrocketing land prices, cemeteries are still common sights. In addition to revealing the local customs, by observing the detailed patterns in a cemetery, one can also discover information such as family background and social positions etc; this was a unique roadside landscape in early Taiwan. With the shift in funeral customs, burial is no longer the only choice, and this also has a direct impact on the land area and usage rate of traditional burial cemeteries. As a result, numerous burial cemeteries gradually began to be dilapidated and reduce in surface area. The study intends to conduct a survey and document the existing cemeteries in the Chang-hua area. In addition to literature and actual case studies from cemetery developments, where opinions from all parties are gathered objectively and used as a blueprint for cemetery landscape analysis and future development and management recommendations.
