本文就自我分化進行概說，再就十年內（2002～2011）國內外自我分化相關50篇實徵性研究文獻從研究對象、自我分化程度比較及研究主題與結果等方面進行分析。結果顯示國內外探討自我分化文獻逐年增加，除了Shapiro（2010）蘇慧娟（2009）之外，其餘研究皆支持Bowen理論假設，也顯示其理論重要性。國內自賈紅鶯（1991）起，後續研究對象擴及各階段學生，但是伴侶與家族治療的自我分化研究尚付闕如。國外則以大學生和成人為主，性別、社經地位不同者在分化程度上有無差異結果不一，不同文化族群分化程度之比較研究亦少。研究者建議未來可朝向自我分化在不同文化、不同年齡族群與健康適應的關係的比較，以及在個別諮商與家族治療應用成果等方向努力。
