Kim Jong-un became First Chairman of the North Korea's National Defense Commission in April 2012. This has formally inaugurated an era of Kim Jong-un, given that he is in full charge of party, military and politics. Since then, he has made an institutional and structural change shifting central power to the Party of Korean Workers and has set up a national development strategy based on two pillars of nuclear forces and economic development. In this paper, the author intends first to specify changes in domestic politics since Kim Jong-un came to power and then explore shifts in foreign policy behavior, emerging trends and implications for the region.
