After nearly a century of early childhood education development in Macau, reforms in recent years focus on curriculum. The core objective is to establish the regional curriculum benchmarks in order to avoid early childhood education being “primary schooling”, and to enhance school ’s curriculum development capabilities. Meanwhile, the education authority has drawn up the “curriculum framework” of early childhood education. Students are required to reach “the basic academic competence requirements ”, and a pilot scheme has been launched in several schools. The future course for the education authority is to convert the regional curriculum framework into school curricula, and rely on curriculum reform as a breakthrough point to promote the overall quality of teaching and nursing in early childhood education.
