　　　　　在即將邁入二十一世紀，電子圖書館將是未來時勢所趨。本文主要探 討電子圖書館及有關的課題，包括:1.何謂電子圖書館，敘述其定義與內涵:2.電子 圖書館最近發展，國際間電子圖書發展舉例;3.電子圖書館與傳統圖書館區別;4. 電子圖書館對現有圖書館內部作業影響，包括對採訪、分編、典藏、借閱、讀者 服務等項目的影響;5.電子圖書館對使用者的影響，包括對使用者目錄查檢、圖書 借閱、參考服務、期刊文獻取得等項目的影響;6.圖書館員角色的轉變與因應;7. 電子圖書館面臨的問題;以及8.未來展望。
　　　　　The 21st century is coming soon. The electronic library will be the trend of the nextcentury. This article discusses the electronic library and several related topics, including: 1.what is the electronic library ? definitions and components of the electronic library aredescribed; 2. the current developments of the electronic library, some examples of theelectronic library are described; 3. the differences between the traditional library and theelectronic library; 4. the impacts of the electronic library on library activities, such as:acquisition, classification, cataloging, circulation and user services; 5. the impacts of theelectronic library on users, including: catalog access, book borrowing, reference services andjournal articles access; 6. the change of the role of librarians and their responses; 7. theproblems of the electronic library; and 8. future prospects of the electronic library.
