生活經驗和文獻證明,男性相比女性有更少的情緒表達行為。據此,本研究假設表達抑制進行負性情緒調節具有男性優勢,而采用認知重評調節時可能沒有該性別差異。在不同的實驗階段,被試分別采用自由觀看、表達抑制和認知重評策略觀看負性情緒圖片,同時記錄事件相關電位(ERP),以及使用各種策略之后的主觀情緒體驗。結果表明,采用表達抑制和認知重評調節情緒后,被試報告的負性情緒體驗沒有出現男女差異。然而,對ERP晚期正電位(Late Positive Potential,LPP)的統計分析發現,LPP的中期(2000~3000 ms)與晚期(3000~4000 ms)波幅均出現了調控策略與性別的交互作用。對男性而言,負性圖片誘發的LPP波幅(2000~4000 ms)在表達抑制條件下相比自由觀看條件出現顯著降低,但女性沒有出現上述效應。此外,在LPP各個時間窗口,采用認知重評策略進行情緒調節時均無顯著性別差異。上述結果表明采用表達抑制策略進行負面情緒調節時,男性具有相比女性更好的調控效果。這提示男性比女性更適合采用抑制情緒表達的方式進行日常情緒管理。這種性別優勢可能來源于社會對男女性性別角色的不同期望。
