The purposes of this study were to compare teacher’s teaching style and student’s learning style in college English education in Taiwan, and also to investigate the differences in perception of evaluation and satisfaction between teachers and students in college English classes in Taiwan. The study is of significance for improving the quality of English teaching in Taiwanese colleges. A sample of one hundred and fifty students and thirty teachers from Hsiung Wu College in Taiwan were tested in this study. Two-in strumpets, Survey of College Students’ Learning Styles in English Class, and Survey of College Teachers’ Styles in English Class which were revised from a questionnaire (Brindley, 1984) were utilized in this study. The percentages of the yes/no scale in the questionnaires were calculated for the data analyses. The results of the questionnaires showed some differences and similarities between teacher’s teaching style and student’s learning style, and the differences in perception of evaluation and satisfaction between teachers and students. The results of this study indicated that the college teachers taught English in a more traditional and theoretical way, and the college students wished to learn English in a more open and practical way. This study is only the beginning of research efforts on college English education. This study could benefit to college English teachers, college students, educational planners, and other researchers. The study may allow better understanding and knowledge for other professionals in their endeavor to create a better English teaching and learning environment for collage teachers and students in Taiwan.
