本研究主要目的在於探討各種不同襯背景色模式，對於表格資訊閱讀之影響。研究分兩階段，首先分析各種資訊表格化之印刷品，攸關背景色與前景文字之間，使用色彩之組合模式與色彩三屬性之對應，以及背景色設計模式等問題。進而設計一菜單資訊表格；襯以8種不同背景色模式之樣本，用以進行實驗，實驗設計之自變項為襯背景色模式(n=4)、有無框線(n=2)，針對年輕與年長兩群參與者，量測依變項:尋找目標資訊所耗費時間以及閱讀之識別度、視覺舒適感、美感與主觀偏好之認知反應。資料以獨立樣本T檢定分析，研究主要發現:兩群人對於不同襯背景色模式之菜單，在尋找目標資訊之速率上具顯著差異，整體而言：年長比年輕者耗時較多；加框線與否之辨識效果在S3(欄襯)-S4(欄襯+框線)與S5(重點襯)-S6(重點襯+框線)之間存在差異；兩群所有參與者針對8張樣本在識別度、視覺舒適、美感與主觀偏好之反應具顯著水準；兩群人皆對樣本S1(列襯), S2(列襯+框線)，即採取間隔列襯與間隔列襯加框線的設計模式，在四個依變項上反應出最佳之認同度。希望結果得以輔助設計者在實務設計上更臻完善，有利使用者尋找目標資訊之績效。

This study aims at exploring how different background color designs affect the legibility of tabular form. The present study has two phases. In relation to background colors and texts, researchers first analyze tabular form printed material in terms of how color combination and the three attributes of color are associated, as well as issues concerning background color designs. Next, we design a menu and display it in eight different background patterns as experiment samples. The independent variables in the experiment are background color designs (n=4) and backgrounds with and without lines (n=2). Two different groups, divided as young and old, are the participants in this study. Both groups’ cognitive responses are evaluated based on the dependent variables: time spent on locating target information, legibility, visual comfort, aesthetics and preferences. Data are analyzed using the independent sample t-test. This study finds that when the menus are given to both groups, the older group needs more time to find target information than the younger group, a significant difference exits between the both S3-S4 (shading to alternate columns ; shading to alternate columns and uses lines) and S5-S6 (shading to headlines ; shading to headlines and uses lines) on cognitive responses concerned using line or not. The two groups show a significant difference in legibility, visual comfort, aesthetics and preferences. However, all participants identify best with S1 and S2, the menu that applies shading to alternate rows and the menu that applies shading to alternate rows and uses lines, as far as the four dependent variables are concerned. It is envisaged that the findings should be of interest to those involved in the development of tabular form for target users.
