In modern Chinese typography, the convenience of the reader and the aesthetic appearance of text are important considerations. Research on Chinese text layout and design has mainly focused on the functionality of text such as legibility and visual search accuracy. However, the basic purpose of layout and design is not only the readability of text but also achievement of visual satisfaction. This study used the aesthetic appreciation experimental method of psychological aesthetics to understand the influence of different layout fonts on the visual comfort of readers. The research results were as follows: (1) Visual functionality is different from visual comfort;(2) Training in an art or design background influences aesthetic preferences; and(3) Changes in font produce changes in visual comfort. The results of this study can serve as a reference for the field of design and related industries, as well as a basis for future in-depth research.
