The religious or virtue-urging songs recorded in Shanshus are called here "Folk songs in Shanshu ". Because of their sacreness in popular belief. Once created they are seldom modified verbally or literally. Therefore, we have good reasons to believe that these folk songs have maintained much of their original oral forms. In this study, the author selects and criticizes twelve folk songs in Shanshus with the hope of contributing to open new perspectives in Chinese folk literature study.
