　　　　　臺灣地區每年約有二萬餘人死於癌症，病人除了須承受因疾病或治療所產生之不適症狀，尚須面對瀕死之事實，而隨著醫療社會之變遷、安寧護理及醫療品質之重視，護理人員除了須滿足病人生理舒適外，更應應用人性化護理及安寧療護之概念，以協助病人及家屬能正向面對死亡。但是若護理人員未能先檢視自我對死亡之看法、態度及價值觀，或正視面對病人死亡時之感受及情緒反應，往往易出現負向之情緒反應及因應行為，甚至會避免與病人或家屬論及有關死亡話題，產生工作疲潰、換工作或離職，故如何透過學校教育或臨床在職教育，強化護理人員面對死亡之知能及應對技巧，使護理人員能以積極態度面對瀕死的病人及家屬，進而提昇臨終照護品質，是教育者及行政者應重視之課題。
