Among the legal cases related to disputes about temples, the Jing ’an Temple dispute was one of the most characteristic. In 1946,Dewu,the abbot of Jing ’an Temple, and Mijia,Supervisor at the Temple, were respectively reported as collaborators during the war. In this case, the state law was involved to punish wartime collaboration, while disputes among monks, between monks and laymen were also involved. In a modern city, various public media, complicated commercial interests, and related social organizations all played important roles implicitly or explicitly in this case, which fully demonstrated the complex interaction among the modern state, religion, and society.
