In this paper the practice of "language protection policy" is reviewed after it has been implemented for five years. The paper points out that in this advanced modern stage it is necessary for China to implement language protection policy,which is a strong guarantee to promote the modernization of construction,in accordance with the common interests of multiple nationalities,and an important measure in solving the language problems of a multi-ethnic country. The implementation of " language protection policy" in our country can provide a useful reference for other multi-ethnic countries to solve their language problems. The accomplishments in the past five years show that China’s implementation of" language protection policy" has made significant achievements and highly praised by all nationalities. The papers also reveals:five years’ experience testifies that in the implementation of "language protection" several relationship must be coped with,ie.,strong and weak language,language complementary and language competition,the use of the mother tongue and the lingua franca,commonness and individuality between different languages,etc. It is a must to carry out the proper policy according to different languages. Simplification and the one-size-fit-all policy should be avoided.
