Previous studies indicated that there exist significant correlation between problem solving competence and information searching ability. People who rarely adopt effective information searching strategies would affect their information searching performance. To address this issue, the study proposes a web-based inquiry learning model based on the problem solving theory. A series of social issues and embedded in Meta-Analyzer are regarded as learning activities. Through the hybrid of quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis as well as structure equation model method, the determinant affecting students’ problem solving performance could be inferred. The research findings shows that the proposed web-based inquiry learning model not only significantly fosters students’ problem solving competence, but also promote their web-based information searching ability. Furthermore, the study also found that task-technology fit is the major factor affecting students’ intention of using the proposed model. All in all, the study can conclude that students could benefit from the proposed web-based inquiry learning model.
