At present, the people in Taiwan are again paying attention to the curriculum reform for grades 1-9. the newly revised national curriculum, anticipated to be put into effect in 2001, emphasizes curricular coherence and integration as well as more school-based development and management. In the new national curriculum, Taiwan's government has more responsibilities such as: preparing teaching material, instructional assessment, curricular assessment, in-service training, administrative tasks etc. for teachers. The teachers colleges also need to be much more responsible for teachers' preparation and in-service training in the near future. This study is to explore the species of 2001 national curriculum of science and living technology at Taiwan's primary school level. Literature review and the two teaching activities of science and living technology at teachers college formulate the research basis of this study. Accordingly, an integration of learning areas, the outlines of implementation, the characteristics and the strategies of the new curriculum are introduced. Finally, the author offered some recommendations for adjusting the curriculum structure at the related department of nature and science education of teachers colleges.
