近代心理學和教育學的理論普遍認為訊息是以組織化和結構的方式記憶,如此以利儲存、提取和操作,因此,如何正確評量學習者所具有的知識結構,以協助學習者改善其認知表現,就顯得相當重要。徑路搜尋法是目前評量知識結構相當客觀的研究工具,使用徑路搜尋法除了可以得到表徵知識結構的網路圖解,亦可以獲得評價知識結構的三種指數。徑路搜尋法提供測驗工具另一有潛力的選擇,此方法不僅相當精確量化,也符合現代的知識表徵理論,因此,研究者決定採用此方法探究高中學生物理學科的知識結構和學習表現的關係。
