Female was positioned as a minor or inappropriate role in the sports world for a long time, Because of the image performed through mass media mostly was weakness, sensibility, of focusing on the appearance and the role in family, female might be given an inherent stiff impression and prejudice “media reality”, though female gets increase on sports participation. Therefore, the purposes of this study was to analyze the gender representation in ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games News in Taiwan’s Newspapers. The subjects of this study that used content analysis methods were ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games News in Taiwan’s Newspapers, during August 11 to August 29, which included 421 content analysis unit totally were form Min Sheng Daily, The Great Daily News, United Daily News, The Liberty Times and China Times News. Data was analyzed by the method of descriptive and inferential statistics, including chi-square statistic and independent-samples test. The major findings in this study were described as follows: 1. There were no significant difference in gender representation between the “quantity” of ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games News(categories including headline, photograph, location and area) 2. There were no significant difference in gender representation between the “quality” of ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games News (categories including gender identity, physical appearance, indirect sports coverage and sex-appropriate sports events for female). In addition, the suggestions based on the conclusion will be offered to the media workers and for the further study.
