在美國與中共的雙邊關係中，影響著中美關係的因素很多，就過去的歷史經驗來說政治性議題對中美關係的重要性遠大於經濟性議題。隨著全球化時代來臨，世界各國在經貿上相互依賴性越來越高的情況下，本文想探討經濟性議題是否會成為影響中美關係的重要因素？尤其隨著兩國之間貿易依存度越來越高情況之下，經濟議題是否會取代政治性議題成為中美關係中的重要變數？是本文主要探討焦點。根據研究結果顯示，中美雙方在經濟議題上雖然有衝突產生，但是卻不認為經濟性議題在中美關係中具有難以溝通或突破的障礙，雙方對於彼此都有所求，因此在求取雙邊最大利益下，這些經濟性議題與中共所堅持的意識型態與原則（主權、領土與傳統性國家安全）不相衝突的情況下，中美雙方都展現相當彈性，來處理雙邊的經貿關係。

There are many factors affecting the relations between China and the United States. During the Cold War, political issues were more important than economic issues in Sino-American relations. In the era of globalization, economic issues have risen in importance. This paper explores whether, given the rising level of economic interdependence between the United States and China, economic issues will replace the traditional political issues as the most important factor in the bilateral relationship. The primary conclusions are that economic issues, despite occasional frictions, are not the main obstacle in Sino-American relations. Both sides understand the interests of the other, and have proved able to reach mutually beneficial solutions. As long as the economic issues are not caught up in issues that are ideologically sensitive to China (e.g. territory, sovereignty, and traditional national defense), the two sides can handle them pragmatically.
