How to translate a text as "web," as the "unfolding of memory"? The importance does not reside in rendering the object intended (the text) "as is", but in discriminating various modes of signifying (different ways to activate the weaving). We would like to enquire into the notion of the "Fold" as it is illustrated in W. Benjamin's theory of translation as well as in Deleuze's critical thinking of western philosophy, starting with a long passage in Proust's work The Captive, where the narrator "translates" the esthetic of the Fortuny dress in a process of "displacement" and "reframing."
