傳奇小說的研究，歷來集中於唐代，宋傳奇的特色頗遭漠視，若以文化研究的角度來看，唐宋文化的遷變，文人價值觀的轉異，都給予小說創作不同的土壤，進而有不同的文學趨向，唐人尚虛，宋人崇實，差異性的書寫或可看成是傳奇體的不同風格。 唐宋傳奇中書寫女性情感的篇章均頗為顯著，尤其宋代傳奇以女性為主角的篇章不僅量多，所書寫的女性角色更為多元，而女性的情感遭遇與婦德意識也呈現明顯的呼應關係，似乎唐宋文化的差異性放在情感與禮教的面向來看，格外突顯。傳統文人以男性的主體位置，對女性進行「他者」的觀看與書寫，由男性所主控的禮教意識，轉落在女性角色的形塑，「婦德」常成為當中的核心價值，在唐宋傳奇作品的跨代創作中，我們進而可以觀察到婦德意識從模糊到清晰，從多重到單一化、形式化的歷程。
