Huang Jinshu is a representative figure of the new generation in Malaysian Chinese literature. The short story The Fish Skeleton he created in 1995 is a milestone in his writing career. With depressed style of writing, The Fish Skeleton tells the reality situation and reminiscing about the past of a Malaysian Chinese scholar in Taiwan, and explores thoroughly hometown imagination and identity problems of Diaspora Chinese. The Fish Skeleton sends out a kind of tropical flavor and mysterious Chinese atmosphere, filled with bizarre stories and images. It contains cultural politics in aesthetics, hides rich symbolic meaning behind the facial plots, and constitutes a unique Diaspora poetics. However, the ambiguity and paradox in the expression of The Fish Skeleton also compose Huang Jinshu's confusion and crisis.
