鍾榮富（1996）為閩南語提出一個具有三個框架的音節結構，其中聲母佔了第一個框架，其餘兩個則屬韻母。在這個音節結構當中，元音前的介音與元音佔據韻母下的第一個框架，而元音與元音後的介音佔了整個韻母（二個框架）。理論上，由於框架數量上的差異，GV在長度上應比VG來的短。為了證實這個假設在語音上是否正確，本研究從聲學的角度探討開音節與閉音節中的GV音長，以及VG的音長。研究結果顯示，鍾榮富（1996）對閩南語元音前後介音在音節結構中所處位置的假設獲得語音上的支持。然而，由於元音延長的緣故，開音節中的GV音長並不比VG的音長來的短。然而，閉音節中的GV音長與VG音長間存在著顯著差異，亦即閉音節中的GV音長比VG音長來的短。

A three-slot syllable structure (XXX) has been proposed for Southern Min (SM) (Chung, 1996), the first X for the onset and the remaining two Xs for the rime. In syllabification, the prevocalic glide and the main vowel occupy the first one skeleton under the rime, while the vowel and the postvocalic glide take up the two Xs under the rime. Theoretically, because of different slots taken up, GV should be shorter in duration than VG. To test whether or not the assumption is phonetically supported, this study, based on an acoustic perspective, targets at the exploration of the duration of GV in open and closed syllables and the duration of VG. The results show that Chung's assumption of the positions of glides in SM syllables matches phonetic implementations. Due to vowel lengthening, the duration of GV in open syllables is not shorter than that of VG. However, there is significant difference in duration between GV in closed syllables and VG, with the former significantly shorter than the latter.
