Penghu is a relay station between Taiwan and Mainland China with an important site of strategy. The special position in geography influences the development of Penghu in the aspects of history and custom. During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese sinologist named Kubo Tenzui went to Penghu by boat for the investigation of historical heritage in 1932. After knowing the complicated Penghu history and contacting the variation in custom combined Taiwan and Mainland China , Kubo Tenzui wrote down what he knew about Penghu history and his feelings about Penghu custom in his writing. We can understand Kubo Tenzui's historical point and what he knew about Penghu history through his writing of history and historic relics in Penghu's Travelogue. From a set of epic poems, we can see his profound poetic skill . It described that the lack of natural resources led to the poor life of people and custom in Penghu in "Penghu Miscellaneous Poem". Kubo Tenzui stayed in Penghu only for six days, so he just saw the surface of the things, and what he saw and heard about Penghu was certainly limited, furthermore, many words he wrote in his poems were copied from the poets' poems in the Qing Dynasty directly. Therefore, his description of people's life in Penghu in his writing was indistinct and wonderful . It is found that his description of the scenery and lifestyle of people in Penghu seemed to be the same as those in the Qing Dynasty , and we saw nothing with modernization in Penghu during the Japanese colonial period in his writing.
