The purpose of this paper is a comparative discussion between Karl Marx
and Fernand Braudel of the cpaitalist system. Generally speaking, regarding the
development of the capitalist system and its interaction with social change or
with the growth of civilizations, the analytic approaches of Marx and Braudel
are quite different. The "mode of production" is the basic strategy in Marx's
analysis; in Braudel's thought, the sophistication of the "mechanism of
exchange" had its importance, except Marx's recognition. Apart from this,
whatever Marx's mode of production or Braudel's mechanism of exchange, they are
both refer to a set of complex concepts, rather than just one dimension's
emphasis of the process of production or circulation.
