Chapter One The Biography of Mr. Wang Yang-ming
Except for the preface, the first chapter is divided into three sections: The first section is the biographical sketch of Mr. Wang Yang-ming, and the second is the background of his learning, which is divided into three aspects of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. The third section is designed to emphasize the background of his time, including three aspects of culture, society, and politics.
Chapter Two An Introduction to the Doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming
This chapter deals with the doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming. It consists of four sections: The first section is concerned with the philosophical thoughts of Mr. Wang Yang-ming and divided into three parts of explaination which include "Mind is reason," "Unity of Knowledge and Acition," and " Realization of Intuitive Knowledge." The second section primarily depicts the educational thoughts of Mr. Wang Yang-ming such as his educational theory, purport, and method. The third section explains the political thoughts of Mr. Wang Yang-ming, including three parts of "To do it upon the essentials of Jen," "To make the unification of state and education," and "Democratic spirit." The fourth section describes the military thoughts of Mr. Wang Yang-ming, including three parts of "Dealing with severe reward and punishment," Planning a good scheme," and "Consolidating the frontier defense."
Chapter Three The Doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming and the Learning Thoughts of Japan
This chapter deals with the relationship between the doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming and the learning thoughts of Japan. It divided into three sections: The first scetion states the sources and schools of the learning thoughts of Japan, including "The Initial Period, Development, The Schools, and the Inheritances and Branchs of Japanese Learning." As regards the second section, it describes the position of Confucianism in Japan, and consists of "The Diffusion of Confucianism toward the East," "The Heyday," and "The Relationship between both the Confucianism and the Classics of Japan." The third section specifies the rise of the doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming, especially in Japan and the Japanese specialists in this field.
Chapter Four The Doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming and the Meiji Restoration
This chapter emphasizes the doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming spreading to the East and its influence upon the main theory of Mr. Wang Yang-ming in Japan. It contains four sections: The first section explains the special features of the doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming, and respectively states the special features, the practical spirit, of the Japanese scholars, the dissemination and comprehension of the uniform spirit of the theory of Mr. Wang Yang-ming. So far as the second section is concerned, it gives more attention to the native power of the Meiji Restoration. As for the fourth section, it explains the special quality and historical significance of the Meiji Restoration, and respectively states the inner and external factors of the revolution of the Meiji Restoration and the completion of its unification. The fourth section describes the relationship between the Meiji Restoration and modern Japan, and separately states its transforming process and modern Japan, and separately states its transforming process and its consequences.
Chapter Five The Evaluation on the Learning of Mr. Wang Yang-ming of Recent Japan
This chapter makes an evaluation about the learning thoughts of recent Japan. I hope both Chinese and Japanese scholars interested in the doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming will develop their merits and enhance the cooperative spirit to the full. This chapter contains three sections: The first section makes a general outline about the rise and fall of modern learning thoughts, including "To make a thorough investigation on modern thoughts," "To absorb modern learning thoughts," and "To transform modern learning thoughts." In the second section it explains the recent situation of the theory of Mr. Wang Yang-ming in Japan, and separately introduces a general view of Japanese Sinology and the study on the theory of Mr. Wang Yang-ming. Third section is related to the cooperation between both Chinese and Japanese scholars who are devoting themselves to the theory of Mr. Wang Yang-ming, with a hope that they will complement each other.
Chapter Six Conclusion
This chapter summarizes this study for the people studying in same line, and makes an outline, recollection and points out the direction for this study in the future. It is divided into three sections : The first section. The Doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming upon the Influence of Japan. The second section The Doctrine of Mr. Wang Yang-ming upon the Influence of Our Country and Europe & American Nations. The third section is the end.
Chapter Seven Conclusion
This chapter summarizes this study for the people studying in same line, and makes an outline, recollection and points out the direction for this study in the future.
