The main purposes of this study were to conduct an inquiry into
the differences between history textbooks in junior high school
in Taiwan and Mainland China. In addition, it also aims at (1)
understanding the developments of history textbooks of Taiwan
and Mainland China; (2) examining the meanings, struct -ures
and functions of political ideology; (3) describing the
relations between textbooks and political ideologies;(4) analy
-sing the factors which influence the political ideology of
history textbooks in both areas and establishing an analytical
model derived from the above; (5) comparing the political ideo
-logy of history textbooks in Taiwan and Mainland China. The
major methods used in order to establish a suitable analytical
structure were literature analysis, content analysis and theor
-etical inquiries as well as reference to relevant research
works.
