東西方冷戰結束後，中共以大國自居，並且積極推動大國外交。與各大國建立伙伴關係，是中共拓展大國外交之最重要手段。迄1999年企止，中共已經在美、英、俄、法、日等大國建立不同型態的伙伴關係。 中共推動大國外交已獲若干成果，但顯然將難以達到推動大國外交的所有目標。

　　　　　After the end of the Cold War, the PRC, while regarding itself as a big power, began to promote big power diplomacy vigorously. They key approach in the PRC's big power diplomacy is to establish "Partner relationship" with all other big power. By 1999, the PRC has established "Partner relationship" with the US, Russia, France, the U.K and Japan. So far, the PRC has made some gains in promoting big power diplomacy. However, it would be very difficult for the PRC to reach all of the original goals of big power diplomacy.
