八卦臺地的南半部，有數條大而明顯的東西向直線崖，除了早期富回芳郎的研究認為是斷層崖以外，一般多認為與濁水溪的切割有關，屬於不對稱分布的河階地形。本文根據野外觀察與地形定年等，認為該等階地之形成是否為河流之切割所為，仍有待商榷，並且目前也沒有充分證據排除構造作用的可能性。如果八卦臺地南部的階地確為構造作用所形成，則根據地質構造力學分析的判斷，一系列的階崖應具正斷層的性質。

There are several east-west trend scarps across the southern Pakua tableland, which Tomida believed to be fault scarps. However, most recent studies relate these asymmetry terraces to down-cutting of Choshui stream. This paper is in doubt of the river terrace origin and suggests that there is no evidence adequately against the tectonic origin, based on the field observation and morphologic dating. Base on the stress of the structural model, the component of tension in this area may result in normal fault, if the terraces were formed by the tectonics.
