The Buddhist sacred scriptures report the Truth that the Historical Buddha realized, they constitute the Dhanna Treasure, which is one from the “Three Treasures” of Buddhism, and naturally received veneration and respect by the Buddhist disciples. When Daoshi was compiling Fayuan zhulin - Jingfa, Daoshi took the Buddhist scriptures as object of investigation, focused on translations, transcriptions, verses etc. and obtained the resonance in order to stress the value of the Buddhist scriptures. As a result, he recorded ‘The Conditions of Sympathetic Resonance’, 42 ptinciples, whose contents analyse how various Dharma offetings can result in extravagant achievements like long life, extinction of guilts, etc. The analysis of the stories included in ‘Conditions of Sympathetic Resoance’ of Jingfa pian aims to investigate how the Buddhist disciples, from the Han to the Tang period, used these tools to spread the Buddhadharma, and the rela.tionship between the Buddhist scriptures prevalent in each period and the efficacious stories included in those. Therefore, by taking the ‘Conditions of sympathetic resonance’ from Fayuan zhulin- Jingfa pian as object of investigation, this paper intends to firstly examine Daosbi’s work (his sources and inspiration) and related materials, and then to assess how Buddhist disciples from the Han to the Tang while spreading the Dharma had been adopting stories of sympathetic resonance in order to advocate the various Buddhist phenomena.
