鄭坤五1925 年發表〈致張我軍一郎書〉，公開駁斥以北京話為白話的論點，認為真正的白話應具在地性，提出「臺灣原有一種平易之文」。1927 年起，鄭坤五於《臺灣藝苑》上，將臺灣民間褒歌37 首詳加注評，題名〈臺灣國風〉，推昇至崇高的地位。此舉反映出他企圖在社會意識上突出臺灣歌謠文化的獨立性，在文學藝術上挖掘臺灣語文內涵的特殊性，在族群精神上強調臺灣民眾自尊的建設性。將對臺灣文化發展的想望，交集於褒歌的整理。本文觀察〈臺灣國風〉及鄭坤五評點內容，探析得其六大文學藝術性，冀以闡發其內涵價值。1934 年鄭坤五完成輯評〈消夏/迎春小唱〉，十年來他持續推展本土褒歌，鼓舞從事，促進反省。鄭坤五可謂為臺灣白話文學發展史上的時代領航者
