　　　　　本文以社會工作及心理學領域中的家庭實徵研究為範圍，蒐集目前廣為應用以及新近發展的家庭測量工具，分析其內容及方法，進而討論其中的測量問題。作者指出，應用或製作家庭測量工具，首先應就四個向度慎重考慮其內涵性質：（１）所要測量的是過程或是結果，（２）要描述家庭特質還是評價家庭的品質，（３）所測概念的籠統或特定的程度，以及（４）所測量的或分析的單位是個人、家庭或是關係？作者並指出家庭測量不應是這些向度性質的任意組合或混合，如果沒有將這些性質釐清，可能造成循環論證，理論驗證失敗、以及分析測量信度或因素分析方法取代傳統因素分析。測量方法方面，作者先討論家庭測量的特殊困難，再以「資料取得途徑」及「對測量情境或反應的限制程度」為分類向度，將主要測量方法分為四類，並從分析變異來源的觀念討論四種方法的差異。作者最後指出，經過上述分析，雖然可以看出一些可能有助於改進目前的家庭測量的方向，但家庭測量不同於個人測量的特殊難題，仍然有待突破。
