The purposes of this dissertation were to develop the “Multidimensional Family Function Scale (MFFS), as well as investigate the family function of students with special needs. The sample consisted of 556 of the family with special needs, which had at least one gifted or disable child. All the family members, including mothers, fathers, and children were requested to answer the scale which contained the three ”system” factors (mother-father, mother-child, father-child). The Multitrait multimethod (MTMM) confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to analyze the systematic characteristics of the family function; Hierarchical linear model (HLM) was used to investigate the factors that influenced the family function.
The main results of this study as follows: (a). The Multi-Dimensions Family Function Assessment Scale the researcher developed had satisfied reliability and validity. (b). The data from the multiperspective- multidyad could reflect effectively the system characters of the family. (c). Different family members had different perception to the dyad of the family. (d). There existed different interactive patterns in different families with special needs. (e). The overall fit of the Multiperspective - multidyad CFA model was satisfied in five sub- dimensions of family function. (f). The family structure factors could predict effective family function.
Finally, he applications of the MFFS were discussed and suggestions were made for future studies.
