澳洲是個相較之下歷史較短的新國家，澳洲文化認同的發展也
相對而言，是比較晚近的發展。澳洲文化認同的主題，主要是如何
發展澳洲自身的認同，而非衹是視自己為在偏遠地區的歐洲文化，
或者是以英國的眼光來看待自己。發展澳洲文化認同，在最近這些
年來有很大的進展，現在一般的澳洲人，對澳洲自身的文化有極高
的認同感，對於澳洲人的獨特性格引以為傲，並不認為須要以從前
歐洲人的眼光來看待自己，這是與過去以歐洲優位的標準不相同。
本文認為，澳洲發展自身認同的過程，並未放棄原有文化傳統的優
勢，衹是以澳洲經驗為核心，同時以澳洲自身的歷史反省澳洲與亞
洲國家的關係，進而改變過往的文化觀念，進一步吸收亞洲移民及
原住民的文化刺激，進而發展出兼容並蓄的多元文化主義，是成功
塑造澳洲文化認同的關鍵。這樣的文化觀念又落實到具體的文化政
策，發展多元的語言與文化特質，成為澳洲立足於亞太社會進而在
全球國際政治中扮演一個重要角色的重要資源。

The history of developing the Australian identity is comparatively
short as Australia herself has only a short history. The theme of
Australian cultural identity is mainly how to develop its own way, but not
regard itself as the remote margin from the European viewpoint, or from
the eyes of the Britain. The development of Australian culture has made a
great progress in recent years. Most Australians now are pride of being
Australians and treat Australian characteristics unique. The superiority of
European standard has gone in the past few decades. The process of
developing Australian identity did not give up the advantage of its
original cultural tradition. The Australian experience became the core of
the identity. The Oz identity has involved in the relation between
Australia and Asian countries in history, Issues like immigration and
aboriginal affairs are involved in molding the plural cultural society. It
is the keys of viewing Australian culture identity. Such a cultural idea
implements the concrete cultural policy. Developing plural languages
and cultures has become Australian core value and significant resources.
