No RN licenses have yet been renewed in Taiwan. Recently, the Department of Health of the Executive Yuan submitted the amendments for RN license renewal to the Legislative Yuan without obtaining the agreement of or even notifying the nursing organization. This action has enormous potential to harm the nursing profession. This study aims to research an appropriate scheme for RN license renewal. This study used randomized questionnaire collected data. Participants included clinical nurses, nurse teachers, nursing managers, customers etc. A total of 360 participators completed questionnaires. The analytical results included the following: (1) (RN licenses require a renewal mechanism should be attached to the issue of RN licenses to promote nursing quality and professional standards, including enhancing patient safety, levels of care, and so on, (2) the RN license renewal mechanism should be administered by the Department of Health, Executive Yuan, (3) the RN license renewal mechanism should include clinical practice hours and continuing education, (4) at least 10-15 hours continued education annually is recommended, (5) clinical practice hours should exceed 80 hours annually, (6) a duration of the validity of RN licenses should be determined, (7) it is suggested that the costs of RN license renewal should be less than 500 NT dollars. The study results may provide a reference for policymaker.
