　　本文之目的，是對美國在幾十年來，希望透過單方、雙邊及多邊之措施禁絕童工問題之努力，做一回顧及檢視，並評析其得失及未來努力方向。除序言及結語外，全文共分六部分：第一部分分析國際童工問題產生之原因及嚴重情形。第二部分探討國際上所從事之各種禁絕努力，包括聯合國及附屬機構所採行之各項作為。第三部分至第五部分則討論美國如何挾其雄厚之政治經濟實力，透過國內立法、對經貿對手國施壓，以及參與多邊合作計畫等設法剷除此一問題之情形。第六部分則是對言些努力之成果作一綜合評述，除指出已發揮之功效及力有未逮之處外，並將提及未來之發展趨勢。同時，也簡要說明我國所應採取之態度及改革之道。
The purpose of this article is to make an in-depth overview about the unilater, bilateral or multilateral efforts made by the United States in eliminating child labor problem in the past decades. It also tries to evaluate their achievements, shortcomings and future directions. In addition to introductory and concluding sections, the contents of the article are divided into six sections. Section One analyzes the economical, social and cultural causes of child labor and the prevalence and seriousness of the problem. Section Two delves into the various efforts made by intern-tional organizations, such as the United Nations, International Labor Organization, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Trade organization, and other regional trade agreements to cope with this issue. Section Three to Five discuss how the United States utilizes its political and economic leverages through unilateral, bilateral and multilateral means to implement these endeavors. Finally, Section Six makes a general assessment about the merits and shortcomings of these efforts and observes several new trends. Furthermore, it also mentions how Taiwan should face with this problem.
