To control the increasing medical expenditure, the Bureau of National Health Insurance (NHI) had implemented the dental global budget payment system onto the dental services since July 1998. In addition to control the medical expenditure, the implementation of dental global budget payment system would further influence the clinical activities and dental quality. The purposes of this study were to exam the effect of dental global budget payment system on the behavior of dentists. The population of this study was all the dentists who perform the clinical practice in Taiwan. This study was a self-administrated questionnaire survey. All the subjects were selected as study samples. Some clinical activities had improved after the implementation of dental global budget system. These clinical activities were as followings: the first and follow-on appointment, the examination of periodontal condition by periodontal explorer, the usage of new mask and glove when dentist see different patient, the oral hygiene education, the assessment of accomplishment of treatment, and transfer to prosthetic, periodontal, and oral surgery specialists. The effect of global budget payment system on behavior of dentists is mostly on the positive side.
