本文的研究焦點是國際規範的擴散，一般而言，即國際規範從出現、擴散到內化的生命週期，關注規範的形成、社會化機制和跨國倡議網絡等內容。然而，目前的國際規範擴散研究模式，因為忽略了國內結構與國家的能動性，而無法完整說明規範的擴散過程，如果用以分析東亞地區，則將更容易出現偏差現象。因此，本文的研究目的即是希望透過多元安全共同體規範擴散的個案研究，藉由描述初始的多元安全共同體規範，經過連動效應，最後中國透過論述、嫁接與文化選擇而在地化成為新安全觀的過程，梳理出規範的促進者、擴散路徑、種類、範疇及屬性，並提出不同的國際規範擴散模式，以提供另一種觀察面向。
Our research focuses on the diffusion of international norms and the life cycle of their emergence, diffusion and internalization as we discuss the formation of norms, societal mechanisms and transnational advocacy networks. Current research into diffusion patterns of international norms, however, has neglected domestic structure and national proactivity and is unable to provide a complete explanation of the process. When applied to East Asia, this format results in even greater abnormalities. Our research is essentially a case study of the "pluralistic security community" and its diffusion as an international security norm, from its initial emergence to its development into a norm cascade and through discourse, framing, grafting and cultural selection, eventual localization in China as the "new security concept". We seek to identify the major advocates of these international norms as well as their types, categories, attributes, and patterns of diffusion, as well as presenting a different diffusion patterns to provide an alternative set of observations in international norm diffusion.
