The art of pressed flower craft has a long history, and it has been developed into a mature technique in Europe and Japan. However, despite the fact that pressed flower craft seen in Taiwan is featured with professional aesthetics of skills and tradition, it cannot be rid of its association with "old-fashioned art", for reasons of low degree of designer's sense, lack of unique features, lack of variety in techniques and material application, lack of artistic and cultural meaning, aged target consumer group. This research is based on a design concept of "breaking through tradition, and creating innovative values". Firstly, it conducted questionnaire surveys on consumers and interviews on shop keepers in order to understand aspects of genres, styles, techniques, materials, and consumer preferences of pressed flower decorations. Then, experiments were conducted on skills and materials. Finally, the researchers sketched designs and created pressed flower work, with the aim of bringing new elements and creative ideas into traditional pressed flower design, and present various looks of pressed flower design. This research used indigenous plants of Taiwan to combine with materials, such as leather, metals, glasses, vines, hem ropes, ribbons, beads, and rhinestones. It also applied techniques and skills from glass-making, jewelry and metal crafts, knitting, leather crafts, and garment sewing, to create four collections of creative products: indigenous series, leather series, glass series, and jewelry and metal series. The creative products with practical functions and fashion aesthetics, which display various looks and features of traditional pressed flower decorations, and also explore new commercial opportunities for cultural and creative industries.
