This article analyzes the reception process of Xi Xi's novels by Taiwanese literary critics between 1983 and 1998. During this period, the reception process of Xi Xi's novels can be divided into three phases. Through analysis of these three phases, this article explores the time when Xi Xi ”connected” with the Taiwan literary circles, the validity of the ”export rejects” theory about Hong Kong authors, and how the Taiwanese literary critics in the 1990s established the ”literary norms” that affected the review on Xi Xi's novels. In summary, Xi Xi's novels generated such attention in Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, as well as other Chinese populated places such as Malaysia; and they were all significant. As a result of the Taiwanese literary critics' participation in such conveying Xi XI's novels, the overall acceptance of her works in Chinese literary circles was widened; consensus on her novels was also achieved. It was a very positive and reassuring note on the positioning of Xi Xi's novels. From another point of view, if there is a relative long period of time to mold and wide participation by literary circles, literary ecosystem is rather free, the so-called ”canon” should also have its open and positive effects.
