Traditionally, the family in Taiwan is characterized by its strong bonding between family members, which could extend across generations. Filial piety and familial collectivism usually entail higher possibilities of intergenerational coresidence and more household members in average. However, since 20th century, family in Taiwan has gone through rapid changes. The family structures today are very different from those at the beginning of the 20th century. By drawing on the data from Taiwan Social Change Survey between 1990 and 2010, this research aims to investigate the said changes by examining the transformation of household composition across two decades in Taiwan.
