隨著氣候變遷問題越來越受到重視，不同學術領域的學者嘗試運用各種理論解釋氣候變遷議題的相關問題，其中國際關係學者一向關心全球氣候治理的實現，因此希望透過各國氣候外交和談判的研究，瞭解建立國際氣候制度的可能性。部份學者應用賽局理論分析國際氣候談判的衝突和合作行為，但究竟這個科學行為主義所推崇的理論架構是否適用於國際氣候談判研究，正是這篇論文所欲探討的問題。本文研究發現，國際氣候政治的複雜性使得賽局理論對國際氣候談判的解釋力受到限制，但賽局理論在某種程度上可強化質性分析的能力，對國際氣候談判的衝突和合作提供更完整的解釋。
With climate change issues receiving great attention gradually, scholars in various academic fields try to study the climate change problems by applying different theories. Those in the field of international studies have high concern on the realization of global climate governance. Thus, they want to know the methods which can contribute to the establishment of an international climate institution by studying climate diplomacy as well as international climate negotiations. A handful of researchers apply game theories, advocated by behaviorism, to study conflict and cooperation in international climate negotiations. If game theories are applicable to the study of international climate negotiations is questionable, however. To find out the answer is the purpose of this paper. It concludes that the proper way to explain conflict and cooperation in international climate negotiations is through qualitative studies rather than quantitative ones due to the characteristics of international climate politics. However, the latter to some extents strengthen the interpretation of the former.
