"Picture book" is a kind of "words in paintings" or "painting in words" books. Through vivid pictures and lovely texts, people feel combined with the power of words and drawings. The meaning of picture books can be expressed by colorful pictures. Appropriate use of picture books can improve children's learning of cognition and language, provide experiences of life and aesthetics, increase the fun in reading, and enhance creativity. In this study, we chose a group of sixth-grade students in Kaohsiung to investigate the effectiveness of teaching and learning using picture books to enhance awareness of gender equality of safety education in the sixth grade students. Based on statistical analysis of parental education, parenting style and living environment, there are significant differences between the living environments. We also found that there is a significant difference in safety education in different-living environments. Our results showed that the students' safety education in different living environments is no significant difference after picture-book teaching conducted. Our results indicated that the difference was decreased after teaching conducted. The use of picture-book teaching activities can be effectively enhanced awareness of safety education at sixth-grade students. The picture-book teaching will be integrated into the teaching activities to enhance students' awareness of gender equality in the future.
