Since the establishment of Audio Visual Centers in Teachers Colleges and Audio Visual Education course offered through these programs in 1957, the Nine Provincial Teachers Colleges in Taiwan has played a major role in the development of audio visual education in the R. O. C. The purpose of this study is to survey the status of the Audio Visual Education course taught in the Teachers Colleges in order to make recommendation for revision. Three independent surveys were designed to collect data from three separate sample populations, (1) teachers of Audio Visual Education course, (2) students of Audio Visual Education course, and (3) student teachers (interns). Analysis of the results reveal that most student and interns realize the importance of this course, but they feel that the course as it is taught today does not fulfill their need. The main problem of the course is that there are too much to be taught in one single course within a semester's time, and not enough practicum opportunities. At this transaction period during which the Audio Visual Education course will be replaced by a new course titled "Instructional Media," we recommend that the new course to be extended to a four credit (two hour each semester) course, with the first semester emphasizing on media utilization and the second semester emphasizing on media production.
