由於女性參與運動大多會面臨兩種不同的角色期望，因此，從性別角色的角度來探討以上的問題，相信是個可行的方向。本文的目的即以性別角色(gender role)的觀點來透視此現象，包括其發展、對運動的影響、社會的刻板印象及其衝突的現象，最後再提出Weiss等人的研究模式，作為未來研究的參考及未來努力的目標。
