　　　　　本文主要係將張五常（Cheung, 1969）之租佃理論模型加以擴充，把自耕與交易 成本納入農業經營方式契約選擇一般均衡模型分析，並透過比較制度分析法（comparative institution approach），以民國早期及聯合國1970年普查資料，說明本文理論模型之解釋 能力及其可接受性。透過研究方法之改變，本文發現長久以來許多文獻認為農業經營方式效 率高低依序為自耕制、定額租制、分益租制、雇工制之論點並不被支持，張五常之分益租制 與定額租制、顧工制相等的說法也不能完全被接受，較能被接受的論點為：基於交易成本之 考慮，自耕制等四種農業經營方式，各有其不同的適同環境。 。
　　　　　In this paper, we extended Cheung's model(1969), by incorporating owned farms and transaction cost in the general equilibrium model of the choice farm patterns. By comparative approach, the data of Chinese farms (1920s-1940s) and of world census of agriculture (1970) are used to test the above theoretical model. The major finding of this study were that , firstly, there is no ranking of operation efficiency on patterns of farms. Secondly, the view of Cheung, that the share tenancy is as efficient as fixed-rent contract farms and wage contract farms, can not be sustained. The main reason is that under different circumstance, the tenant and the landlord would choice different patterns of contracts, in order to reduce their transcation cost.
