Languages come into being with the aid of thinking. Similarly, thinking is generated and enriched by the application of languages. To a great extent, the differences in the structure of Chinese and Western languages make the way of thinking between China and the West obviously different. At a deeper level, such difference is one of the most fundamental reasons leading to the cultural differences in the end. In the analysis of the relations among language, thinking and culture, the "Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis" has obvious one-sidedness, while Humboldt’s viewpoint that "languages, man and the earth are an indivisible whole" is not only helpful in revealing the essence of the cultural differences between China and the West and also very beneficial for promoting cross-cultural and harmonious communications between China and the West.
