本研究的主要目的，在分析台灣地區的報紙如何報導本屆總統選舉，並比較公民營報紙選舉新聞之公正性。本研究採內容分析法，分析選舉前三個月，六家報紙的選舉新聞報導。研究結果顯示，公民營報紙的選舉新聞均有政治偏差現象，但無論在引用消息來源、報導數量及新聞給人的整體印象方面，公營報紙的政治偏差情形均較為嚴重。
This paper examines how newspapers reported the campaign and candidates during the 2000 Presidential Election in Taiwan. Re-sults of this study showed that state-owned newspapers were far more likely than privately owned newspapers to give greater cover-age to the ruling party candidate, to use ruling party officials as news source, and to offer more news coverage favorable to the rul-ing party candidate than to other candidates.
