本文的出發點是：傳播研究基本上是一種解決問題的活動。從這個角度，傳播研究發展的軌跡，從早期重效果研究到晚近引入政經詮釋學派，百家爭鳴，此一趨勢，一方面呼應人文社會學門，在體現Habermas所說的三種旨趣，即技藝的旨趣、實踐的旨趣、解放的旨趣。一方面在解決學門的特有問題，即傳播形式、內容與人的關係。在此脈絡下看台灣傳播研究，雖然與西方同步，但郤缺少明顯的問題意識。下一世紀應保持傳播的多元性格，發展本土的問題意識。

　　　　　This paper conceives of research as problem-solving. Under this assumption, the changing trends in communication research can be considered firstly as responses to fundamental interests, namely, instrumental, practical, and emancipatory interests and secondly as responses to problems unique to communication, which center around the relationships between man and media. In light of the past development in communication research, the research in Taiwan can be criticized for a lack of the indigenous problematic, which should draw its inspirations from local contexts. This is an issue to be tackled in the next century.
