The problem of overweight has become a whole global crisis of epidemic proportions. The purpose of this study was to use questionnaire survey data to investigate the body shape image of obese women in relation to their design preferences from clothing, as well as their satisfaction with ready-to-wear apparel. The subjects consisted of 213 obese women aged 19 to 56. A questionnaire distributed to obese women provided data on garment satisfaction, body satisfaction and clothing design benefits. Frequencies, percentages, and ANOVA were employed to yield quantitative results, which showed that respondents had a high level of dissatisfaction with their ready-to-wear. The results also indicated that the more obese respondents were satisfied with their bodies, the more likely they were to choose designs that fit closely and sex appeal. Obese women with higher cathexis scores were more likely to seek innovative fasions.
