日本同化政策並未滅絕漢學，反而強化陳錫如等人傳承漢學的意志。他們藉由徵詩與擊缽活動匯集文人齊聚旗山（現稱旗後山），從這些活動中，文人得以和旗山地景互動，形成人與自然的新關係。文人社群與空間（旗山）、物體（旗後砲台）的交互作用中，逐步建構出旗山的地方感與在地認同。旗山儼然成為漢學的認同象徵，與日本化的打鼓山（即壽山，或稱柴山）形成「『旗』、『鼓』相當」的鮮明對比。換言之，漢學人士認同旗山，日本人禮敬壽山，漢學與日學涇渭分明。《留鴻軒詩文集》描繪的繁華街市－苓雅寮，光復後因闢建碼頭及港埠設施，發展受限，而日漸沒落。當時苓雅寮周邊的小村莊，如過田仔、林德官、五塊厝等地，則因政府的開發政策與財團的投資進駐，已成為高雄市商業、行政和文教中心。陳錫如與女弟子的詩文有助於理解與再現日治時期的旗山與苓洲地景，建議後續研究能更廣泛的研讀日治時期台灣文人作品，以再現當時高雄地區的地景與風貌，作為地景變遷研究的基礎。

The sinology continued to flourish well due to a series of poetry competitions convened by Hsi-Ju Chen in Chi-Chin under Japanese colonial rule. On the forming of sense of place, Chi-Shan and Chi-Chin became the symbol of locality identity against the localizing into Japanese. In other words, sinologist treated the Chi-Chin as the identity of sinology to resist the Shou-Shan which was the symbol of Japanese rule. The scholar interacted with the landscape of Chi-Chin by the titles of poetry competitions such as "Chi-Chin", "Chi-Hou fort", "lighthouse", "fishing village". The new relationship developed between people and nature as well as sense of place/locality identity from the interaction among space, objects and community of scholar. The assimilative education did not extinguished the hope of sinologist in developing sinology, it strengthen the will of some sinologist (e.g. Hsi-Ju Chen) to develop sinology contrarily. Ling-Ya-Liao was a prosperous downtown according to the depict in "Anthology of Liu-Hong-Xuan". It has been downgrade for the past few decades due to the construction of wharf and related facilities which confined the development of the commerce. The small villages arround Ling-Ya-Liao, such as Kuo-Tien-Tzu, Lin-Te-Kuan, Wu-Kuai-Tso have became the commercial, administrative and educational centers owing to the government's policy and syndicate's investments. The poems and articles wrote by Hsi-Ju Chen and his girl students depicted the landscape of Kaohsiung in the early 20th century. It is helpful in understanding the ancient landscape of Kaohsiung. The ancient landscape is the base of the landscape change research, therefore more poems or articles wrote by other scholars should be perused in order to reconstruct the ancient landscape of Kaohsiung.
